Spain: Back for Madrid party

Spain’s triumphant World Cup squad have arrived back in Madrid after their success in South Africa on Sunday night.

The squad touched down on Monday afternoon after leaving Johannesburg in the early hours of Morning morning.

Andres Iniesta’s 116th-minute goal secured their 1-0 victory over an uncompromising Holland side and gave Spain their first-ever World Cup.

Spain skipper Iker Casillas and coach Vicente del Bosque were the first to emerge from the flight shortly after it landed at Barajas airport.

The crowd that had gathered at the airport cheered when Casillas raised the World Cup trophy in the air.

The 23-man squad and the technical team will later attend a reception hosted by Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero at his official residence at 6.00pm.

After the reception the squad will parade through the main streets of the Spanish capital on an open top bus as Spain fans welcome back their heroes.
